Wedding Florist Questions

Nov 30

Knowing answers to wedding florist questions before meeting can help your design comes to life, the process be fun, and to know if they are a good fit. Floral by Array Design, Phoenix, Arizona.

Flowers at your wedding set the mood and communicate your love story to all in attendance. Knowing answers to wedding florist questions at the first meeting can help to achieve just the design result you are envisioning, make the wedding flower process go much smoother, and make sure the florist is a good fit for your big day.

There are a couple things to have nailed down first. Have your date set, so I can make sure I am available for your big day! Have the venue chosen. This will help you and me to know what kind of space we are working in and any restrictions or allowances. This includes if open flame is allowed. Or maybe how I might attach a hanging installation at your venue. Knowing an estimate of the number of people attending can help to guide the reception tables design ideas. Also, knowing your general wedding flow, such as if there will be a cocktail hour or type of reception, is helpful for design discussions as well. I have worked in many venues throughout The Valley.  If I haven’t been to yours, I will be sure to check it out to finalize any design or installation questions.

Style

Make sure the florist you have reached out to matches your style. Look for images of a florist’s work in the style you seek. My work features loose and organic arrangements with greenery in garden style designs. There are airy spots in the bouquets I create, as you might observe the flowers in nature. I like to work in color palettes that highlight a primary color, while mixing in some secondary colors that are nearby on the color wheel. I seek out unique flowers to feature that aren’t found in the everyday marketplace. You can check out my portfolio or Instagram to see more of my style and decide if that is the look you are after!

Have a List

During our first meeting, I will ask you about arrangements you are interested in having for your wedding. Even if you think some items might be outside your budget, have a list of all the arrangements you would like. A list will make sure everything is included in the design vision. You can always make adjustments after you receive your personal quote. Think about each person in your wedding. Do your flower girls want flower crowns? Will you have any floral for the ring bearer? Is there someone special not in your party you want to honor with a personal bouquet or corsage? Walk through your ceremony and reception space in your mind, or in person. Do you want accents at the back of the aisle, or along the aisle? Do you need something special for the welcome table or seating chart? Knowing the detailed list will ensure nothing is forgotten.

Color

This can sometimes be the most fun part! Be ready to share with me what your wedding colors are. What color are your bridesmaids wearing? What about the groom and groomsmen suit color? Jumping off of what your colors are to design a “recipe” of color for your arrangements is where I do lots of dreaming. With you, I choose a primary color and accent color for the bride’s bouquet. Then, the other wedding party floral is used as a compliment, so the bridal bouquet is the star of the show. Even working with light or white color palettes is a blast. White can be a highlight in a design. The blending of color almost seems infinite. I love to show brides what is possible to bring their design focus to the next level.

Have Images Picked Out

For me to get a better feel of your wedding design style, having pictures available for our meeting is very helpful. They do not even need to necessarily be of exact arrangements. Is there an image of a piece of art or landscape that has inspired your wedding design? Show it to me! Inspiration comes from so many sources, and doesn’t have to be just pictures of other bouquets. I am going to create something unique to YOU. I don’t want to just copy an arrangement for you from a picture. If you let me dream along side you, I can create custom designs that speak to your style and love story alone.

Come Open Minded About Flower Choices

As your florist, I am going to pick the absolute best looking and quality flower when it comes time for me to purchase flowers for your wedding day. I want the flowers to look fantastic, and last. My best work isn’t when I am required to produce arrangements with specific flowers in them. When this happens, I can’t guarantee your arrangements will look at their prime. Flowers are living things. Sometimes crops are bad, the available colors are all wrong, or they are out of season. Know that I will do my absolute best to make sure everything you see come wedding day looks beautiful and conveys your mood, color palette and love story to every onlooker. Please share with me the blooms you are lovin’! But know I am going to do my job for you to produce something that looks amazing.

Budget

It may be a four letter word, budget, but it also helps me to guide you in feasible options based on what your floral budget is. We can focus on key areas, or spread the love throughout if the budget allows. I understand the dollars matter and I will help you understand the options to create your dream day.

I love meeting with each couple to hear all about their design ideas. During our first meeting, knowing some of the details to start with can help me to embrace your ideas and provide you with an accurate picture of what the floral experience will be at your wedding. I want you to feel comfortable and confident with me so that you don’t worry one bit about what your flowers will look like come your big day. With your trust, I will pair my love of design with your desired ideas to create arrangements that will wow on your wedding day and create fond memories for a lifetime.
