A Sweet Surprise Proposal

A Proposal Bouquet

A photographer friend, Mary Claire, asked me if I would create a bouquet for a really special occasion, a sweet surprise proposal, and I was so happy to help! I created an ombre design bouquet highlighting gold, rust, peach, blush, green textures, and white. It was fun to have the creative freedom and no color palette restraints to design with. I think the gold ribbon made for a beautiful romantic detail at this sweet surprise proposal.

The bouquet flowers included gold roses, rust colored sweet pea, hints of deep foliage and hypericum berries fading to lighter colored sweet peas, white scabiosa flowers, Queen Anne’s lace, and my favorite Clooney ranunculus.

From the Photographer: In Mary Claire’s Words

My little brother approached me with plans to propose to his girlfriend, Tailyr, and we decided to plan a styled shoot for the surprise. We chose Tom’s Thumb for a beautiful desert backdrop and arranged for a gorgeous bouquet from Array Design, a wedding dress from Luv BridalSarah Stidham beauty for makeup, and Tailyr’s talented mother, Kasie Noble did her hair. Everything came together beautifully and since we had her mom involved doing hair, she was able to come along without causing too much suspicion from Tailyr.

We started shooting around 4 and after about 30 minutes of shooting, I gave Sam the signal that the lighting and location was perfect for the big moment. I had Tailyr turn her back to us so that I could ‘grab some shots of the back of her dress’ and Sam used the opportunity to get down on one knee. When she turned around her face immediately lit up and she started crying. It was the sweetest moment and could not have been more perfect.

From my perspective, taking photos as soon as you get engaged make for the absolute best memories. When Justin proposed he had a photographer sneakily waiting to capture the moment and then we took our engagement photos right after I said “Yes”. The silly grin I have and the memories we have from that day are some of my absolute favorites. I know Sam and Tailyr will cherish these moments for many years to come. Plus how sweet when their family was able to be integral parts of the day as the photographer and her mom doing her hair.
